Testimonies of Healing

Many blessings have come to me...

From the June 1929 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Many blessings have come to me through studying Christian Science, so that with my heart full of sincere gratitude I should like to relate two wonderful healings. Shortly before the birth of my last child, I slipped on the ice, injuring my spine and displacing an organ. From this injury I suffered for three years, until I heard of Christian Science. I felt that it was the truth, and began to study. Then with my family of ten children I went to Los Angeles, California. While there, with the help of a loving practitioner whose fervent prayers helped me to realize the power of God, as if through mental surgery the healing was accomplished.

One year later, while we were still there, one daughter, eight years of age, was suddenly seized with severe pain in the abdomen, which seemed very alarming. At once I applied the truth in Christian Science to the best of my knowledge. Not being able to work out this problem myself, I asked for help from the same practitioner. The child rested more easily during that day, but the next day seemed much worse. So much fear was expressed by the other members of the family that my eldest son and a neighbor called in medical aid. The physician pronounced the case double pneumonia, internal rupture, with peritonitis, and gave us very little hope, ordering the child to the hospital. To this I did not consent. I knew that "our law refuses to recognize Man as sick or dying, but holds him to be forever in the image and likeness of his Maker" (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, by Mary Baker Eddy, p. 441); also, that "he that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty." I held steadfastly to the truth of what our beloved Leader further says (Science and Health, p. 463), "A spiritual idea has not a single element of error, and this truth removes properly whatever is offensive." To-day this daughter is a healthy child.

"Seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you," has been proved to me. I am grateful for the help I get daily through the reading of our Leader's works, also for the privilege of sending five of my children to the Christian Science Sunday School, where they are taught this beautiful religion. I am grateful to the dear practitioner who helped me so unselfishly in many dark hours of despair.—
