Testimonies of Healing

I should like to tell of some of...

From the August 1929 issue of The Christian Science Journal

I should like to tell of some of the blessings that have come to me through the study of the Bible and of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, and through treatment by Christian Science practitioners. Some of my earliest experiences were spells of sickness of various kinds, and weakness of the stomach and constipation, supposed to be inherited. Sick headaches, coughs, colds, and severe attacks of tonsillitis troubled me often. Later on I was attacked by asthma and heart disease, for which I took a great deal of medicine prescribed by physicians. Gaining only temporary relief, I tried change of climate, which I thought helped me for a short time. But what I needed was a change of thinking, and I began to find this out when a friend, in the new neighborhood to which I moved at this time, lent me a copy of Science and Health, which I read eagerly. I also read the Bible a great deal, and left off taking all material medicines.

The stomach trouble and constipation were healed through this reading, and sick headaches were lessened. I still needed help, and after four years I called on a Christian Science practitioner, who helped me at once. I shall never forget the courage and strength I gained from the first treatment. Hope and health began to be manifested where all had seemed to be mental confusion. Since then, Christian Science has met every need when rightly applied. Influenza, sore throat, a sprained foot, and many other troubles have all been healed by Christian Science treatment. For the healing of a quick temper and other faults of disposition, I am most grateful.

I am grateful for the Christian Science literature, and especially for the Monitor, which meets many daily needs and keeps us awake to the issues of the day. I am happy to be a member of The Mother Church and of a branch church, and grateful for class instruction. I am grateful to God, who sent Christ Jesus to show us the way of salvation from sickness, sin, and death, and to Mrs. Eddy, who worked so faithfully to give the Christ-teaching to us in the way which we can understand and apply to our daily needs. For the help and love of Science practitioners and friends I feel that I cannot express enough gratitude.—
