Christian Science is a "pearl of great price," the greatest treasure that has ever been given to me, and I can never in words express my gratitude for all the blessings that its healing and saving power has brought into my life. From my earliest childhood I had always sought God, but it was impossible for me to understand how He, the All-loving, could fail to love the children of His own creating, and how He required the crucifixion of Jesus in order to forgive them. Christian Science has revealed to me the God of love, who knows no hate; and it has shown me also that it was the world's hatred of the Christ, Truth, that nailed Jesus to the cross. It has also shown me the Mind of Christ, the victory won, the conquering of hate by love, and the overcoming of death by Life understood, proving that the divine Mind, Truth and Love, cannot die.
I have been healed of a severe nervous illness accompanied by periods of fear and condemnation, which made it impossible for me to attend to my duties or stay in my home. After months and months spent away from my family in despair, and crying and praying to God to show me the way, I returned home and resumed my duties, resolved to do my uttermost. Some years before this breakdown, a friend had mentioned Christian Science and sent us some literature. In one of the Sentinels I read about the healing of an incurable disease, and in my great need I turned to Christian Science. I sought in turn many practitioners, and was greatly benefited, but not healed. At last God led me to one who, by her untiring and faithful work, helped me to see the nothingness of all the so-called laws of heredity, and I was permanently healed. But I had to go through very deep waters, partly owing to the fear of my husband and relatives, who had been told by several doctors that my condition was incurable, and partly because of lack of wisdom on my part. Many times I cried, "Father, hast Thou forsaken me?" but I had to learn to "be still, and know" that peace of mind, lightness of heart, ability to do one's duties, happiness and harmony in one's home, are brought about by the understanding of God's willingness and ability to meet all our needs when we rely on Him with all our heart. All these blessings, and many more, are due to the Christ, Truth, that the study and application of Christian Science bring into our consciousness; and I am happy to say that I now know that the loving Father never forsakes us, and that we shall surely reap "if we faint not."
I am inexpressibly grateful for membership in The Mother Church. When traveling, one learns to appreciate the magnitude of the organization of our Mother Church, and the wisdom, courage, love, and foresight of our revered Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, who bore the "heat of the day" for hundreds of thousands of weary wanderers all over the globe. I am deeply grateful for "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, and for our Leader's other works; for our literature, the Journal, Sentinel, and Monitor, as well as for the opportunities provided by the periodicals to give utterance to our gratitude for healings and blessings received in obedience to our Master's words, "Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature."— Stockholm, Sweden.
