It is with a heart full of gratitude that I give this testimony of the blessings which came to my home through Christian Science about four years ago in the healing of my little son, then seven years old, of what the doctor called pneumonia in its worst form; also in the healing of grief for him and for me, as we had been left all alone about a month before this happened, with scarcely any means of material support.
My boy awakened on a Thursday morning feeling ill. He refused to eat any breakfast or to get up, and in a little while had high fever. I immediately called for Christian Science help by telephone, but the child did not seem to improve. The next morning the family that lived nearest me came in to see him and told me I had better call a doctor. Since all around me were so opposed to Christian Science, I did not know what to do, as the child seemed worse. That was on a Friday afternoon. A doctor came and examined the child, and said that he had pneumonia in its worst form and wanted to take him to a sanitarium. That I refused to allow him to do. I then telephoned to the Christian Science practitioner. From that time the child began to improve, and the high fever started to go down; and he was much better on Saturday and Sunday.
On Monday morning a justice of the peace and deputy sheriff came to see the child. They said he was in a bad condition and I would have to get a doctor for him, as he seemed about to die. I told them I was having Christian Science help for him. They said they would send a doctor out that evening, which they did— Monday evening. I called the practitioner again and told him what they were trying to do. He said: "All right, we have to satisfy them first. We will do all we can, and the child will be all right."
