My first healing was of tubercular glands, in 1914. Several years previous I had undergone an operation for this trouble; but, while I am sure the surgeons did all they could for me, it was only a short time until I was again suffering from the same complaint. For many months I was unable to do any work; then Christian Science was brought to my notice by a loving friend, and when a practitioner came from a distant city to see her I asked to see her also. I purchased the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, and had a number of treatments. I was marvelously helped, but as there was no practitioner near and I had no real understanding of the divine Principle that heals, or how to apply it, I soon lost interest, and Christian Science was forgotten. I wonder now that I ever could have done so, but I realize that my thought was not then prepared to accept the truth.
In the spring of 1914, I had become so discouraged that I had almost lost hope. I again asked for Christian Science treatment. All sense of pain and fear was overcome in one absent treatment through the work of a practitioner. The swelling did not go down at once; in fact, it was several weeks after this when I noticed that the swelling had gone. I had no idea when it disappeared, but I suddenly realized that I was completely healed. This healing has been permanent.
I have also been healed of a severe case of erysipelas through the help of a practitioner. As in the first healing, the fear and pain were eliminated in the first day's treatment; and on the fifth day I was able to return to work with scarcely a sign of the complaint. This was over ten years ago, and I have never had the least return of this trouble. We have had in our family healings of burns, colds, sick headaches, indigestion, and such a wonderful sense of God's protection in cases of accident as to be almost unbelievable to one not having some understanding of the allness of God, as we learn to know Him through the study of Christian Science. I wish also to express my gratitude for the sense of 'harmony that has entered our home through this study, and for the help received in working out our everyday problems, whether physical, financial, or mental. I am so grateful that I am learning, and have been able to demonstrate in a measure, that there is no condition which does not yield to the right application of the truth about God and the realization that the real man—and there is no other —is the reflection or expression of God.
