Testimonies of Healing

When Christian Science was introduced...

From the November 1931 issue of The Christian Science Journal

When Christian Science was introduced into our home, twenty-five years ago, I did not foresee the tremendous influence for good which it was to bring to me and to several members of my family. Since our whole-hearted acceptance of Christian Science it has indeed been a "pearl of great price." To the extent of our understanding of and consecration to this teaching, peace has come in place of discord and uncertainty, help in financial difficulties, and healing of sickness and faults of character. The following words in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy are helping to heal me of the desire to lean upon the understanding of others, thereby neglecting my own mental work (p. 238): "Unimproved opportunities will rebuke us when we attempt to claim the benefits of an experience we have not made our own, try to reap the harvest we have not sown, and wish to enter unlawfully into the labors of others."

I am especially grateful that my years at college, as well as many months spent in foreign lands, where at times I was entirely separated from other Christian Scientists, did not cause me to forget the influence for good which I had received at home and at Sunday school, but rather served to quicken my dependence upon the slight understanding I had of Christian Science. While connected with the army during the world war, most of which time was spent overseas, I was protected in every way and did not once lose a day from work during nineteen months of service. One evening in the fall of 1918 a severe throat cold threatened the loss of my voice at a time when it was most necessary to be at my post and to use my voice continually. Through my application of the teachings of Christian Science, my condition was greatly improved by morning, and I was soon completely healed.

Previous to going abroad I was vaccinated and inoculated, according to army regulations, but was scarcely inconvenienced at all, and lost practically no time from my training. About this time an army doctor emphatically told me that I had a case of astigmatism and should put on glasses immediately. Instead, help was given me by a Christian Science practitioner in another city, with the result that my eyesight gradually improved without the aid of glasses.
