I First learned of Christian Science through my mother-in-law, who took me to a lecture which aroused in me a great desire to know more of God and of His laws. From this time I took up the study of the Bible and of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. Since this wonderful awakening in my thought I have been healed of great physical weakness.
As an infant I was taken to South Africa, where I developed all the supposed illnesses of childhood and finally dysentery, which left me far from well. When I returned to England at the age of nineteen, I took up farming and found that the exposed life told on my already weakened constitution, with the result that I was forced to spend many days in bed during the long, damp winters. During one of these periods of pain and weakness I was examined by a physician and told that I should probably have to leave England and live in a drier climate.
It was soon after this that I started to study Christian Science, and sought the loving help of a practitioner. She pointed out to me so clearly the verities of being, the man made in the image and likeness of God, that I saw myself as the child of God, unable to lose my true birthright — health and happiness. After two years of study and application of these truths, the false material conditions disappeared, leaving me stronger and happier than I had ever been before.
