Testimonies of Healing

I did not come to Christian Science...

From the December 1934 issue of The Christian Science Journal

I did not come to Christian Science for physical healing, although an internal disorder, which might have led to serious complications, yielded when I gained a desire for the truth about God and man's relationship to Him and the universe as expounded by our great Master. As I look back upon the past six years, since taking up the study of Christian Science, I know that nothing else can ever take its place in solving not only my own problems but those of all mankind as well.

Many false traits of character are slowly but surely being overcome by consistent, prayerful study of our Lesson-Sermons in the Christian Science Quarterly, our Truth-inspired periodicals, and our Leader's writings, as well as regular church attendance, and loving, unselfish service to our Cause.

Social drinking was quickly overcome, but the tobacco habit was more tenacious, because, while I was willing to relinquish the pains of material sense, the pleasures still seemed very real. As I worked along the line that we are taught in Christian Science—that man as God created him is perfect, sinless, and eternal, and that he cannot be governed or controlled by false appetites and pleasures—and made application for church membership, this erroneous habit was overcome.
