Testimonies of Healing

The light of Truth dawned for me...

From the December 1934 issue of The Christian Science Journal

The light of Truth dawned for me the first week I began reading Science and Health. I had borrowed the book just for the purpose of finding out what Christian Science meant and how it compared with my own religion. At the time I had a so-called organic trouble, which the doctors, one of whom was my husband, said could not be healed. I suffered much pain at times. Soon after I began reading the textbook, the pain presented itself, but I overcame it with the truth contained in a statement on page 243, "Matter has neither intelligence nor sensation; and never again did this trouble present itself. That was over twelve years ago, and this experience shows that if we give Truth an opportunity to operate in our consciousness it will heal us.

One morning before leaving my room I was reading the Bible, and the sentence, "Do not I fill heaven and earth? saith the Lord," so permeated my consciousness that I rejoiced in feeling I could overcome any difficulty. A few minutes later, on going into the garden, I slipped on a step, falling with such great force that I felt I could not get up without help. But instantly the words came to me, "Do not I fill heaven and earth? saith the Lord," and at once I was able to rise and go about my work as though nothing had occurred. Surely, "the word of God is quick, and powerful."

At another time I attended a lecture on Christian Science, and during the lecture I realized very clearly that sin, sickness, and evil of any kind cannot touch spiritual man, and that there is no other man. On arriving home that night after the lecture, I got out of the car and ran along the sidewalk to the gate. The sidewalk was covered with ice and a sprinkling of snow. I slipped and came down very heavily; seemingly my back and right arm were powerless. Immediately the thought came to me, Why, this accident has never touched spiritual man; therefore, it has never touched me. Although material sense was saying that the pain was intense, I was able to get up at once and walk a hundred feet to my home. My right arm was hanging helpless by my side. The door opened for me and one of the family helped me in and to undress and retire. I made the arm as comfortable as possible, gratefully knowing that God's child is safe and intact in divine Love. I fell asleep, and in the morning was able to use my arm as though nothing had happened. I am grateful for these beautiful proofs of the omnipresence of the Father-mother, God.
