At one time I injured one of my fingers. The ligaments were so torn that the finger drooped. I could see as never before how useless matter is. I could also see clearly that, according to Christian Science, this condition was not true—not of God —and that my true being was not injured nor impaired in the least. In two weeks the finger straightened out and was as normal as the others.
At another time I had ptomaine poisoning. My suffering was almost unbearable; I never expected to recover. For three days and three nights my husband stood over me declaring God's love and the fact that it was sustaining me and caring for me, until I caught the sweet refrain. The third morning I arose healed. Through all my suffering I relied fully upon the Father; I felt so near Him, such trust in Him. "Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me."
At another time I was taken ill very suddenly. I was practically helpless and could not stand on my feet. My daughter wanted to know why I had not called her. I told her that I was afraid she would interfere with my religion, but she said that she would not. The second morning I was able to drive to another town and in the evening attended a Christian Science lecture. I was healed with the exception of a dizzy feeling which very soon faded out and left me free and happy.— Joplin, Missouri
