In more than forty years of direct contact with Christian Science, I have experienced many results of its healing ministry. My parents had class instruction in Christian Science before I was born, and I am deeply grateful for the benefits derived from the early training in this Science which they gave me. However, the time came that I could no longer go to my mother and ask her to work out my problems for me. Because of my failure to apply Christian Science, a physical condition did not yield and I finally went through an operation. I found myself no better thereby, and then had to work out the problem in Christian Science. This healing took place more than fifteen years ago, and the condition never returned.
Whenever a problem has come to one of my immediate family, we have made it a practice to ask for help only after working on the problem ourselves. This has caused us to rely on God alone and not on personality. I am grateful to say that this true reliance has never failed. Some of the many beautiful healings we have experienced are of cancer, peritonitis, pneumonia, St. Vitus's dance, broken bones, itch, and scarlet fever. I should like to mention a healing that came to a dear relative. The verdict was given out by leading surgeons at one of the most famous clinics in the United States that he could not live more than three months. This condition was diagnosed as arteriosclerosis of the head, caused by the use of alcohol. Further, the verdict was that he would never regain the use of his faculties; also that there was complete paralysis of the bowels and they could not resume their action. That evening he had a Christian Science treatment and he never touched a drop of alcohol again. Within a few days the bowels began to function normally; in a few months his mind was perfectly clear and he resumed his usual place in the business world and remained active there until his retirement some ten years later.
In the last few years we have been learning more and more that God is the source of our supply. By wholeheartedly relying on divine Love we have had everything we needed. I am truly thankful for the proofs of God's love and presence. It was my privilege to be one of the "Busy Bees" at the time of the building of The Mother Church in Boston. I am a member of that church and of a branch church, and have had class instruction. I rejoice in the many activities connected with the Cause that have from time to time been assigned to me. I humbly acknowledge that all of these blessings have been made possible for me and mine through Mrs. Eddy's discovery of Christian Science and the founding of its movement.—Whittier, California.
