CHRISTIAN SCIENCE came to me when I was in need of healing both physically and mentally. I was suffering from a complete nervous breakdown, and was so weak that even moving about exhausted me; bodily functions also were not normal. My doctors disagreed as to what the difficulty was. Not knowing just what to do next, I went with my sister to an aunt in the city. A friend came over the evening I arrived, for which I am truly grateful, for she told me of Christian Science, also that it is the only real Science and that God is Mind. She lent me her copy of Science and Health and asked me to read page 428. When I got to the bottom of the page and read Mrs. Eddy's words, "It is a sin to believe that aught can overpower omnipotent and eternal Life," I glimpsed something of the great truth which changed my thinking and gave me courage, strength, and a wonderful sense of freedom.
After reading the textbook every spare minute for four weeks, I was able to travel alone two hundred miles to my sister's home, where I continued to study for another four weeks, receiving encouraging letters from my friend. I then traveled back to the city and the next day took a position which I filled for nine months. I had gained a sense of strength and dominion; my fear of distance was also overcome.
I had never heard of a practitioner, but after reading the testimonies in the periodicals I felt I should like the help of one. For the untiring patience and love of the one who helped me to know more of God, I am unceasingly grateful. I have had many healings in Christian Science, some with the help of a practitioner and some through my own understanding. A sprained wrist was healed completely during the night. I have also had almost instantaneous healings of colds by realizing that they were just suggestions and could not touch God's child.
