IT is with a deep sense of gratitude and joy that I testify to the healing efficacy of Christian Science. Eleven years ago I was suffering both physically and mentally from that which to medical doctors seemed to be quick consumption. I experienced pulmonary hemorrhages day and night and was unable to work; it was even necessary to sleep in a sitting position, as lying down invariably brought on another hemorrhage. During this time I was under the care of some of the best physicians and specialists in one of our larger cities, who used every means known to medical science to check these hemorrhages, but I gradually grew worse and became very despondent and discouraged. In this physical and mental state I was led by a member of my family to try Christian Science, and help was asked of a practitioner. Through this practitioner's clear understanding of the truth, I was enabled to learn of God and of man as His image and likeness; to realize "that blood never gave life and can never take it away" (Science and Health, p. 376). Needless to say, I was completely and permanently healed.
I was an inveterate smoker for years, but the desire for tobacco has entirely disappeared through the realization that man has no satisfaction in false appetites, therefore my real selfhood, the image and likeness of divine Mind, is not craving drink or tobacco, but is satisfied and harmonious now.
I am sincerely grateful to our beloved Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, for her devout, untiring, and consecrated study of the Bible, which enabled her to give to this age a clear, demonstrable understanding of the truth, as taught and demonstrated by Christ Jesus; for the wisdom she reflected in establishing the Christian Science movement, which she indeed founded upon the Rock, Christ.
