Testimonies of Healing

To listen to someone while he audibly...

From the August 1935 issue of The Christian Science Journal

To listen to someone while he audibly voices the truth is often the means of healing, for confidence and assurance are inspired thereby. One Sunday afternoon a lecture on Christian Science was given in a public auditorium. While my family went to this lecture, I listened to it over the radio, as I was suffering from an influenzal cold. The lecturer's clear and confident exposition of the truth about God and man brought the clear vision to me that sickness is no part of the kingdom of heaven, and therefore no part of man, for man is "the temple of the living God," and in Him is no evil at all. I rose and dressed, freed from all aches and fever; and all the discomforting conditions attendant on such ills left me immediately. When my family returned they found me well.

This healing was another proof that all disease is mental; that faith in the mere belief of life in matter is the error which must be destroyed. All that is needed to rid us of illusions, is to lift our thought away from matter into Spirit. Our revered Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, makes this clear in Science and Health (p. 425), where she says, "Consciousness constructs a better body when faith in matter has been conquered."

With this healing came the urge for constant watchfulness over the quality of thought entertained. I have learned that healing in Christian Science stirs those who are grateful to watch for and to reject any sense that would destroy the animation, peace, and joy which come with genuine Christian Science practice. For the many wonderful agencies of Truth, including church, periodicals, and our Church Manual—all the rich gift of our revered Leader—I am very grateful.—
