The assurance possessed by the Christian Scientist that life is eternal, is based on the truth about God which Christian Science has revealed to him. What is this truth? It is that God is infinite and perfect Life. And since Life is infinite, it never had a beginning and never will have an end: Life is eternal.
Again, because God is infinite Truth, Truth in all its perfect phases never had a beginning and never will have an end. This may be exemplified by the simple mathematical fact that twice two is four. When did twice two begin to be four? Twice two never began to be four, it always has been four. When will twice two cease to be four? It will never cease to be four, it will always be four. And so with all truth: it never had a beginning, and it never will have an end. Truth is eternal.
God being infinite, there is but one cause; and spiritual man and the universe are the effect or manifestation of that cause. Further, man is the idea of God. And since he is the idea of God, he must coexist with God, perpetually reflecting God, his creator. Thus, man never had a beginning and never will have an end: man is eternal. In her definition of "ark" on page 581 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" Mrs. Eddy shows that our safety lies in knowing the Science which reveals spiritual reality and states the truth about man. Her definition of "ark" is, in part, "God and man coexistent and eternal; Science showing that the spiritual realities of all things are created by Him and exist forever."
