Each day I realize anew the importance of Christian Science in my life. I know that I am experiencing a more abundant life through its sincere study and application. I am deeply grateful to God, the Giver of all good.
My first healing occurred a few years ago. A bone growth appeared on one of my legs as a result of being struck by a golf club. Feeling my understanding of Christian Science was too slight, I appealed to medical science for help, and was told that a cure could be effected only through an operation. As I walked away from the physician's office I knew my faith lay in the healing power of Christian Science, and so I appealed to a practitioner. When I related my story, the practitioner asked, "Do you know how to pray?" She requested me to read the chapter on Prayer in Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy.
I read it many times. Since childhood, I had been greatly puzzled by many passages in the Bible, one of which was (I Thess. 5:17). "Pray without ceasing." And as I read the second paragraph of the chapter on Prayer, this verse was clarified by Mrs. Eddy's words (p. 1), "Desire is prayer; and no loss can occur from trusting God with our desires, that they may be moulded and exalted before they take form in words and in deeds." I learned many things through this study, but above all I learned how to pray.
