The benefits resulting from putting into...

From the February 1945 issue of The Christian Science Journal

The benefits resulting from putting into practice the teachings of Christian Science have been proved to me many times, financially, morally, and physically, and it is with deep gratitude for the church, the Sunday school, the periodicals, and all the activities of the Christian Science movement that I write this testimony. My appreciation and love for Mary Baker Eddy and her book, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," grow yearly as the Bible and the life and works of Christ Jesus become more meaningful and practical. The value of the daily study of the Lesson-Sermon, particularly when it was realized that, for me, this study should come the first thing in the morning, is inestimable, and I am sincerely grateful for the wisdom which led Mrs. Eddy to establish the Lesson-Sermons and provide the Church Manual.

When I was about twelve years old my parents were told that I was suffering from St. Vitus's dance. The symptoms had become so severe that I was unable to raise a glass of water to my mouth without spilling it, walking had become stumbling, and I recall crying frequently. Because I had attended the Christian Science Sunday School for several years, a consecrated Christian Science practitioner was asked to give me treatment. Within a month's time I was entirely normal and returned to school, although doctors had advised keeping me out for at least two years. At no time has this trouble ever returned, nor have I experienced any effects from it.

In caring for our two babies it is hard to conceive how I would have managed without the help of Christian Science and a practitioner. When our little girl was four she caught her hand in the electric wringer, and before she could be reached her arm had gone through up to the shoulder. There was no temptation to examine the injury, and the arm was quickly covered. A practitioner was called for help, and we read and sang hymns until the child fell asleep. That afternoon she attended a party where no one noticed her arm, and within three or four days the discoloration and soreness had completely disappeared.
