"A MORE EXPANSIVE LOVE"

From the October 1947 issue of The Christian Science Journal

THE men and women who have contributed most to human betterment have refused to be hampered by narrow, smug, selfish, local viewpoints. They have seen something of the simple truth that basically and factually all men have one Father, whose will is for all to live in understanding, unity, and peace, and they have seen that the means for accomplishing this is unselfed love. One of the great contributions Christian Science is making to the world's betterment is this: it is helping men understandingly to love God and one another.

Love, as Christ Jesus exemplified it, is not merely the human affection of one person for another, wholesome as that may often be. Mary Baker Eddy tells us that "the underived, the incomparable, the infinite All of good, the alone God, is Love" (Miscellaneous Writings, pp. 249, 250). Love is man's source, cause, and origin. Love is Life and Principle. Love is the one substance, Spirit, and Soul. Love is Truth. Love is the only Mind. Because Love is all these, Love is All.

Man, individually and collectively, is Love's image. No thought that is unloving is man's thought; no word that is unloving is man's speech. Man lives by Love; he lives for Love; he lives in Love; he is ordained by Love to be conscious only of Love's kingdom.
