COME DAILY TO THE FEAST

From the October 1947 issue of The Christian Science Journal

NOT long ago at a Wednesday testimony meeting in a Christian Science church, a young woman stated that for a time she did not get the inspiration from Christian Science that she previously had. Upon searching her thought to find out what was wrong, she realized that although she had been reading the periodicals faithfully and attending church regularly, she had been studying the Lesson-Sermon in the Christian Science Quarterly only once or twice a week. She stated that she had felt, until this time of self-examination, that it was not necessary to read the Lesson every day.

Then she was led to read the Scriptural account of Naaman, the young captain of the guard whom the prophet Elijah bade "go and wash in Jordan seven times." Immediately she saw that when Naaman became obedient and did as the prophet bade him do instead of protesting that the rivers in Damascus were as good as the river Jordan, he was healed of leprosy. She realized that she too had been disobedient; for had she not neglected getting the inspiration from Christian Science "seven times'? The purification that she needed daily she had been having just once or twice a week. Needless to say, satisfying inspiration became hers when she quietly and earnestly began to study the Lesson-Sermon daily.

The writer was especially interested in the testimony of this young woman because she too had had to learn that it is only when we allow days to pass without careful, consecrated study of the Lesson that we find our thinking becoming dull, uninspired, and unresponsive to Truth. It is necessary that we study daily to show ourselves approved unto God as well as to gain a little each day in the understanding of Truth. Then, when those seeking the light come to us, our own lamps will be burning brightly and be a guide to those in need.
