After a short period of study of the Bible and the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by our beloved Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, I found that many undesirable traits of character and erroneous habits were overcome and a bowel and stomach disease of twenty-seven years' standing, which had been X-rayed and diagnosed as incurable by different physicians and surgeons, was completely and permanently healed.
When the last doctor said that he could do no more for me, I told him that I had decided to trust God and was going to a Christian Science practitioner. He told me that if all people had faith like that, there would be no sickness. I began to have absent treatment, and one day while reading in Science and Health the words (pp. 412, 413), "The Scientist knows that there can be no hereditary disease, since matter is not intelligent and cannot transmit good or evil intelligence to man, and God, the only Mind, does not produce pain in matter," I realized that I had been keeping to myself for some time the fear of a hereditary case of cancer. Although I had not told her of the fear, the practitioner was urging me to take my stand for Truth and get out of bed. While I was pondering the quotation, my husband and a friend came to my room and announced that they were taking me to the hospital. I refused, telling them that I had decided to stand with God and Christian Science in this hour of great need. They left me, and immediately the whole room seemed filled with the light of Truth, and I knew that I was close to God.
After that I made rapid progress and was soon restored to health. One of the doctors wanted to X-ray me again, as he said that although he had heard of such healings, this was the first one he had actually witnessed. After the X ray he told me that my stomach was in normal position and that there were no signs of the old growths.
