All my life I have received the benefits...

From the October 1948 issue of The Christian Science Journal

All my life I have received the benefits of Christian Science, and I want to express my gratitude.

One of the things for which I am most grateful is the foundation laid in the Christian Science Sunday School. The teachings, which were in accordance with the rules given in the Manual of The Mother Church by our Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, have returned to me many times to guide and comfort. A debt is owed to the Sunday School teachers as well as to the many consecrated workers who have devoted themselves to making these teachings available to ever wider fields.

I should like to tell of a healing which took place when I was in junior high school, some thirteen years ago. I became ill with acute abdominal pains, and a practitioner was called. As the condition did not seem to improve, a diagnosis was sought. The doctor's verdict was that I had a ruptured appendix, and that I had no chance of survival without an operation and only a slight chance if this were undertaken. I was truly in "the valley of the shadow of death" (Ps. 23:4). Entire reliance was placed on Christian Science, and no operation was performed. The healing came slowly, but during this time many lessons were learned, which resulted in improved disposition. The healing was complete and has been permanent. For the loving work of the practitioner and the help my parents gave, I am grateful beyond measure.
