I am very grateful that Christian Science...

From the October 1948 issue of The Christian Science Journal

I am very grateful that Christian Science came to me over thirty years ago when I was searching for a satisfying religion. I had been reared by religious parents and had joined an orthodox church, but did not receive the peace and joy which I felt should result from church membership. I wanted to know more about a God of love and about Christ Jesus. Jesus said in his Sermon on the Mount (Matt. 6:33), "Seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you." Through Christian Science as taught in the writings of Mary Baker Eddy I have found peace and joy and fulfillment of the promises of Christ Jesus, our Way-shower.

I was not then thinking of physical healing, but was quickly healed of backache, from which I had suffered almost constantly. Soon after this healing, when a goiter seemed to be developing, I applied my understanding of Christian Science. The goiter disappeared in a short time through my knowing that a spiritual idea cannot manifest an unnatural growth. Insomnia was overcome when I realized that I could spend my wakeful night hours in reading and studying the truth about God, with far greater benefit than by losing consciousness in sleep. Decaying teeth have become sound through my knowing that God can heal every form of error and that there are no cavities in Mind. I still have a full set of teeth and for the last twenty-five years have had little need of dental work.

I have had many quick healings of headaches, indigestion, and influenza by knowing that "the word of God is quick, and powerful" (Hebr. 4:12), and have been confined to my home for only two days in the last thirty years on account of illness— one day each on the occasion of influenza attacks. On three different occasions when members of my family have passed on, grief and a belief of loss and separation have been quickly healed through the help of practitioners. Faults of disposition, such as quick temper, criticism, fear of criticism, sarcasm, envy, self-will, self-consciousness, self-love, self-depreciation, and other forms of error, are being overcome through my seeing man as God's reflection, perfect and free. A happy home and congenial companionship have always been provided when I have turned to divine Love to meet the human need.
