With a grateful heart I want to give thanks through our periodicals for Christian Science. I also want to express my gratitude to God, the Giver of all good, for revealing the Christ, Truth, to Mrs. Eddy. For Mrs. Eddy's unselfishness in wanting all mankind to share the pearl of great price with her, I am especially appreciative.
During the First World War, I was taken ill with what the doctors diagnosed as neuralgia. I was attended by seven of the best physicians in the city where I was living at the time, but I received no help and steadily grew worse. I was then taken to one of the finest specialists in Chicago and given treatments for some time. I received no help whatsoever from this source, and so I returned home and went to one more physician, a brother of a friend of mine. After two months' treatment, he kindly told me that he could not cure me, but could only relieve me.
All during this experience a friend came often to visit me, and she told me about Christian Science and what it could do for me. But I had a fear of quitting the doctors. Finally, in my extremity, I did turn to Christian Science for help and went to a practitioner for treatment. When I left his office I felt as though a load had been lifted from my body. I began to get better immediately, and although my complete healing was slow, I am grateful to say that the false beliefs I was entertaining in consciousness were destroyed, and I was finally free. Mrs. Eddy says on page 393 of Science and Health, "A false belief is both the tempter and the tempted, the sin and the sinner, the disease and its cause."
