With a deep sense of gratitude for Christian Science I write this testimony. All that I am and all that I have I owe to the understanding I have gained through the earnest study and application of the truths of this practical religion for the past nineteen years.
When this Science was presented to me, I was ill. I had been a member of an orthodox church for many years and had learned to turn to God in every need, but when my prayers were not answered, I thought it was Gods will; therefore when I had the first glimpse of God as Father-Mother, ever present, I began to experience a sense of peace that I had never known before. I had been a registered nurse for many years, my specialty being operating-room work. During this time I underwent three major operations which were thought necessary to save my life. After the last of these operations I was a mental and physical wreck. The many kind doctors with whom I had been associated told me that if I lived, I would always be an invalid.
Just at this time, however, I had the wonderful experience of entering the home of relatives who were consecrated students of Christian Science. They saw my great need to know more about God, and each day the truth about God and my relationship to Him was lovingly voiced to me; and little by little the light of Truth penetrated the darkness of my erroneous thinking. I studied the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, and soon began to read and study daily the Lesson-Sermons in the Christian Science Quarterly. I commenced to gain weight, and many ills began to go as I realized the nothingness of the material body. I had learned in my medical study that the body is two thirds water, and this was now a help to me because I soon could see that water certainly has no intelligence and no power except what mortal mind gives it.
