"YIELD TO HIS ETERNAL PRESENCE"

From the May 1949 issue of The Christian Science Journal

"CHRIST cannot come to mortal and material sense, which sees not God. This false sense of substance must yield to His eternal presence, and so dissolve." So writes Mary Baker Eddy (Unity of Good, p. 60). How light earth's burdens become and how joyous our work of overcoming error becomes as we learn more and more to "yield to His eternal presence"!

The Christ, Truth, as Jesus proved, is always with men, enabling them to demonstrate the spiritual blessings of health, harmony, wisdom, security, and abundance. The ill-health and various other discords seemingly experienced by mankind spring from false material sense, which accepts matter instead of Spirit, God, as true substance. This ignorant belief seems to give to the organs of the human body and all forms of matter a power which they do not possess to control the life, harmony, and happiness of man.

Christian Science teaches us how to distinguish between thoughts based on the "false sense of substance" and true thoughts, revealing "His eternal presence," and how to apply the truths of God and man in governing our thinking. In proportion as the nature and allness of God are understood and He is accepted as supreme and ever present, "mortal and material sense" dissolves and the Christ, the true idea of God, comes to us.
