At the time that I received a letter saying I had been accepted for class instruction in Christian Science my husband and I were given one month's notice to vacate the house we were renting. This presented an obstacle to the fulfillment of my desire to go through class, since there was a housing shortage. I had already proved it possible to have whatever is right, however, by earning my way through high school and college, although I had been left an orphan at an early age; so I did not become discouraged, but looked to God for guidance as I had heretofore.
It was revealed to me that I had been obsessed with the concept of home as a material dwelling place, rather than knowing home as a spiritual idea, the expression of divine Love. I held to Mrs. Eddy's statement (Science and Health, p. 454), "Love inspires, illumines, designates, and leads the way." Another of her statements also came to" me clearly (ibid., p. 254), "Pilgrim on earth, thy home is heaven."
In the Glossary of Science and Health I found that "heaven" and "home" are used as synonyms for "Jerusalem" (p. 589) and that both the definition of "heaven" (p. 587) and the one of "kingdom of heaven" (p. 590) were just what I needed to clarify my thought about home. In using the Concordances to Mrs. Eddy's works I found many helpful references, but one especially seemed to be a direct answer to my prayer and released me from all fear. It was from "Pulpit and Press" (p. 3): "Our surety is in our confidence that we are indeed dwellers in Truth and Love, man's eternal mansion."
