THE POWER OF ORGANIZATION

From the August 1953 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Two friends walking on the beach were discussing Christian Science. As they talked, a mighty wave broke with great force on the rocks, shaking the earth around them. One of the friends remarked, "Do you know, the strength of that wave reminds me of the irresistible power for good of the Christian Science organization."

"What do you mean?" asked the other.

"Well, a single drop of water in that wave is a very small thing. By itself it could not shake the earth. But when its force is combined with that of millions of similar drops, it is practically invincible. The countless drops forming the seas encircle the globe, carry huge ships, and shake the ground with the force of their waves. It seems to me there is a close analogy between the combined, co-ordinated strength of Christian Scientists working together under Principle and the power of the individual drops of water combined into the breadth and depth of the sea. The work of individual Christian Scientists is, of course, extremely important," went on the friend, "but without the unity provided by the Christian Science organization—The Mother Church and its activities, and the branch churches and societies—our Cause would not grow and prosper as it does."
