For a long time I have wanted to express my sincerest gratitude for Christian Science and all that it is doing in the world today, as well as for our beloved Leader, Mrs. Eddy. The work of loving practitioners, the lectures, and our publications are helping to feed the world's hungering thought.
Some time ago through the help of a practitioner I was able to overcome a serious condition of complete paralysis and shock. When I was finally able to talk with the practitioner she said, "This is not real, and we are going to meet it right now." I had been a student of Christian Science for only a short time, and my friends who were aware that I had taken up its study expressed doubt and criticism of it. Although they were eager to help and to advise. I knew that what I really wanted was to lean on God; I was sure of His help. As a result, the condition was healed almost immediately. This demonstration of freedom was an inspiration to me.
One of my most difficult experiences was that of overcoming the habit of smoking. It required a struggle. The practitioner worked faithfully, but I continued to smoke. Finally one evening, when I was studying Christian Science and smoking at the same time, I fervently asked God what to do and opened my Bible to a verse in Ezekiel which reads in part (2:1), "Son of man, stand upon thy feet." So I took my stand and did not smoke again. I did not mention to anyone what had occurred until I was certain that the healing was permanent. Then I told my practitioner, and she rejoiced with me. The desire to smoke has never returned.
