Testimonies of Healing

It shall be the duty of every member of...

From the August 1953 issue of The Christian Science Journal

"It shall be the duty of every member of this Church to defend himself daily against aggressive mental suggestion, and not be made to forget nor to neglect his duty to God, to his Leader, and to mankind" (Manual of The Mother Church by Mrs. Eddy, Art. VIII, Sect. 6).

For many years these words of our revered Leader, Mrs. Eddy, have been foremost in my thoughts each morning as I have awakened from sleep. And as I have become more alert to defend myself against the many forms of aggressive mental suggestion by knowing their unreality and the allness of God, peaceful, harmonious days have resulted. It has followed that, in a degree, I have been able to do my duty to God, to our Leader, and to mankind.

Christian Science satisfied my longing to understand God. I had studied many religions and visited many churches, but God still seemed very remote and shrouded in mystery. I was in great need of physical healing and had traveled through many countries and visited numerous physicians, undergoing manifold modes of physical treatment in my quest for healing of a serious intestinal disorder. One doctor had succeeded in giving me some relief and dismissed me with the verdict that I was nine tenths healed, but that I would still have to observe a diet and apply certain remedies whenever attacks of the condition returned.
