With a heart overflowing with gratitude I give this testimony. I searched for many years for a religion that would bring God nearer to me and attended many orthodox churches. Although I received some comfort, I always hungered for some deeper truth. When I moved to the town where I now live I had a feeling of happy expectancy. I could not understand why, because I was in such a delicate state of health that almost all normal activity was denied me. In addition, the world around me was sad because World War II had just begun.
A month after my arrival in this town I heard of Christian Science from a new friend, who was spending the night with me. In the course of the conversation I asked her where she went to church, and she replied that she was a Christian Scientist. I then asked her what Christian Scientists believed, and she told me simply and clearly that they believe that God is Love and so cannot send sickness to His children. She said that they also deny all sensation in matter. The acceptance of these two points altered my life. I was instantaneously healed of spinal trouble and of difficulties for which I had been under constant medical care. I saw clearly that if what I had been told about God was true, then what I was believing about myself could not possibly be a fact.
The next day I borrowed "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy from the public library and began the study of Christian Science. I cannot find words to tell of the enrichment and joy that this study has brought. God is now real and near to me. I know I can always turn to Him for any help I need.
