NO UNSOLVABLE PROBLEM IN CHRISTIAN SCIENCE

From the May 1959 issue of The Christian Science Journal

SOMETIMES the student of Christian Science finds himself faced with a problem that he seems unable to solve. A sudden loss or a stubborn sickness defying his consecrated efforts may cause him to ask: "Why has this happened to me? Has Christian Science failed?"

Evidently the student needs to reassure himself that it is as impossible for Christian Science to fail as it is for the science of mathematics to fail. The science of mathematics does not suddenly cease to be usable and effective in the working out of a problem in arithmetic. Since Christian Science is truly Science, then why has the healing not been accomplished?

Often I have recalled an experience that took place in my second year of high school. Geometry baffled me. One noon hour a classmate came to me and said: "I think I understand why you are having trouble. You have not grasped the first lessons well enough to be able to prove the following ones. Let me help you." He was right. Once having learned the first lessons well, I had no more difficulty.
