For many years now my husband and I have experienced a continual unfoldment of good through an understanding of God's love gained from our study of Christian Science.
At the beginning of World War II we shared a rented dwelling with another small family. The dwelling was later purchased by a new owner as an investment, and he immediately raised the rent. We did not object to this. However, a short time later an account in the local newspaper stated that price control was in effect and that those agreeing to pay higher rents, as well as those imposing the higher rate, would be prosecuted. We contacted the real estate agent, only to be told that the higher rate stood, regardless. But we chose to obey the law and to pay the former rent. The new owner was displeased and expressed his displeasure. This unpleasantness became the topic of conversation between the two families, resentment toward the new owner growing with each rehearsal of his displeasure.
That night very late we were awakened by our young son crying in pain. Because of the lateness of the hour, we did not want to call a practitioner. My husband and I turned in prayer to God. Very shortly the following statement from Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy came to our thought (p. 259): "The Christlike understanding of scientific being and divine healing includes a perfect Principle and idea,—perfect God and perfect man,—as the basis of thought and demonstration." We realized that God's love includes all His children. A feeling of loving compassion toward our landlord filled our consciousness. We felt very grateful that we knew the truth of God's all-inclusive love, and we realized that because we knew the truth, we could not suffer from a lie.
