The belief that matter can supply love, happiness, health, the good life, seems to mesmerize the world; yet in truth it offers nothing. This mistaken gross materialism appears to have engendered pollution at every level of the mental, moral, and physical environment. Is purity losing the battle with sensuality, immorality, uncontrolled permissiveness?
The healing power of purity has never waned. Purity is the natural, God-ordained status of man and the universe. By divine decree man is pure, undefiled, the spotless manifestation of Love. Health, happiness, and purity are already the absolute fact of man's being. Knowing this, we bring God's healing power to the belief that we have to struggle against mortal mind's environment to maintain our health, happiness, or purity.
We can go back prior to Jesus' time for biblical proof of purity's power to heal. The account of Joseph in the book of Genesis vividly points out this healing power of purity. His love of God healed what could have been hatred for his brothers; his fidelity to God, good, overcame the invitation of Potiphar's wife to commit adultery; his trust in God lifted him out of prison to become second only to Pharaoh as ruler in Egypt; his charity to his jealous brothers in their time of need crowned a life dedicated to purity. The pure strainings of his thought—love of God, fidelity to God, trust in God, charity for his fellowman—was the healing power in Joseph's life.
