My introduction to Science came shortly...

From the October 1981 issue of The Christian Science Journal

My introduction to Science came shortly after the birth of our first son. According to the doctor, the infant had a lazy or partially paralyzed intestine; there was also the likelihood that he would have clubfeet. Our neighbors were students of Christian Science, and something about this family seemed especially wonderful. One day when the wife was visiting me, our son had his first natural movement in weeks. Feeling that the spirituality and purity of her thought had contributed to this improvement in the baby, I asked her to tell me about her religion. I soon accepted Science for myself, and since that time I have tried to follow it faithfully. This same son grew up well and strong. He became an adept basketball player while in grade school, and was an excellent scholar throughout his school years.

In raising our family we have not sought the help of doctors or medicine. I am grateful for the wonderful cooperation of my husband that has supported our family's desire to work things out in Christian Science. I can truly say that divine Science has satisfied our every need. Discordant family relationships, financial difficulties, effects of accidents, and various illnesses have been met through the application of the same law of God by which our Master, Christ Jesus, healed.

Years ago, from time to time I began to experience painful hemorrhaging with occasional loss of consciousness. I had recently returned to teaching, and at home I had six little ones under the age of twelve. Periodically I requested the help of a Christian Science practitioner, and for a while the difficulty lessened. Although the stress I was under seemed tremendous, I felt staying home from school was not appropriate.
