Although I had become interested in Christian Science during my high school years, I did not begin to study it until after I had been married to a practicing Scientist for three years. He visited my Protestant church, and I occasionally attended services with him at the Church of Christ, Scientist, where he had attended Sunday School up to the age of twenty. In the meantime, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy was readily accessible to me, and finally I began to read this book. My reading was soon enlightened by the recognition that I had found what I had been seeking for several years.
One evening a few months after I had begun reading Science and Health, our infant son began crying. He apparently had stomach pain. I was alone with him and our two-year-old daughter, for my husband was working late at his office. I called a Christian Science practitioner for help through prayer. She reassured me with spiritual truths of God and our son's relationship to Him and said she would pray for the child. She also requested that I sing one of the hymns from the Christian Science Hymnal with words by Mrs. Eddy (No. 304), "'Feed My Sheep,'" to the children. After we hung up I began to sing this hymn, and our little girl joined me in singing. Within a matter of minutes the baby was gurgling along with us, his crying stopped and his body relaxed. What relief and joy I felt as I called the practitioner back to tell her the good news!
Shortly thereafter I joined a branch church and became a member of The Mother Church, and since then my husband and I have been grateful to serve in several branch churches at different times and to have Christian Science class instruction.
