Christian Science was introduced to my mother around the time she was trained as a medical nurse. She had been serving as a governess for a family who sent their children to the Christian Science Sunday School. This family found the Christian Science textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, helpful in dealing with their children's problems. They recommended the book to my mother, who was a young widow with several children of her own to raise. At that time Mother began to read and to practice the truths Science and Health teaches.
Mother enrolled all her children in the Christian Science Sunday School. When she had grown in the study and practice of Christian Science, she left medical nursing and became a seamstress. One day Mother experienced pain and one of her arms became immobile. She called a Christian Science practitioner to support her through prayer, and in a few days she was completely healed. When her children were grown, Mother became a Christian Science nurse, and she was listed in the Journal for fifteen years.
My greatest heritage has been the introduction Mother gave me to Christian Science as a very young child. I am also grateful that my precious husband, who was a Christian Scientist, and I raised our children in Science.
