The inevitability of world peace

From the February 1988 issue of The Christian Science Journal

It is generally believed that matter and mortals govern the world. And undoubtedly it is this premise that has led some people to believe the destruction of the world is imminent. Since actions proceed from thoughts, it would be dangerous to let such a self-defeating concept stand unchallenged.

Christian Science reveals the absolute fact of creation: that God, Spirit, is in control of all that is real; and all that is real, including the universe, is spiritual. God has not made His kingdom to self-destruct; He has made it to express Himself—His goodness and universal harmony. Centuries ago an Old Testament prophet promised, "Thy people also shall be all righteous: they shall inherit the land for ever... that I may be glorified." Isa. 60:21.

Since mortal mind inverts everything, it can never see this fact. But God's man is not a mortal with finite, distorted senses; he is the spiritual ideal of God with perfect spiritual sense and unerring direction. Paul assures us: "We have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God." I Cor. 2:12.
