A few years ago I noticed a growth on my back. It caused no discomfort and could not be seen, and after some time I actually put the situation out of mind.
Several months passed and nothing changed. Then one day I was confronted with pain in my right leg and in my back. The Bible records Christ Jesus as saying (Matt. 5:25), "Agree with thine adversary quickly, whiles thou art in the way with him." This passage had never been clear to me, because I had never understood how I could agree with an adversary—error or evil—and be victorious. But when I examined some of the meanings of the word agree in the dictionary I gained a sense of the word as meaning to come to one mind concerning something. When I changed the Biblical passage to read, "Come to one mind concerning thine adversary quickly, whiles thou art in the way with him," I perceived that I needed to understand what divine Mind knew—I needed to know what was true—about the error, namely, its nothingness. I also recognized the command to do it now!
I began to dispute vigorously the material evidence with spiritual truths. After a period of intensive study and prayer, the pain in the leg vanished. There was no change in the discomfort in my back and hips, however, and I discovered that the lump on my back was getting larger. I experienced difficulty in sitting, standing, lying on my back, or doing any physical activities. But this only increased my determination to pray earnestly about the condition.
