I am led to put pen to paper because I want to actively express my gratitude for finding Christian Science. I hope that by writing my story I will help another who may be full of questions and feel uncertain about life.
For many years, especially during high school, I had been asking myself questions such as, "Is there a God? Is He good? Then why did He create sickness and suffering?" There is a passage in the Bible that reminds me of that time. It reads (Job 7:4): "When I lie down, I say, When shall I arise, and the night be gone? and I am full of tossings to and fro unto the dawning of the day." Today I am grateful for those turbulent years because they made me seek out answers and be receptive to Truth.
When I entered college in 1979, I made a new friend, who happened to be a Baptist. Late one night, while we were walking back to our dorm, we shared our religious views. I made a statement about life being eternal and added that we learn this as part of our education. She said to me, "You know, you sound like a Christian Scientist." As I had never heard of Christian Science before, she told me a little about it. And that ended that, or so I thought.
