When our son was about two years old he began to have symptoms of what I suspected was leukemia. I was familiar with these symptoms because I had known two children with this disease. At the time that this happened, I was not interested in Christian Science, so, very frightened, I brought our son to a pediatrician to see if my suspicion was correct. The doctor told me that the tests he took indicated that our son had a serious blood problem, which could be leukemia, and that our son would have to go to a hospital for further tests.
Well, I knew about Christian Science because I had been an attendant of a Christian Science Sunday School. So I brought our son home, picked up the Christian Science textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, and for three days I read every minute that I could. I also called a Christian Science practitioner for prayerful help.
I recall that I read the chapter "Christian Science Practice" over and over. There are so many passages in that chapter that gave me the strength to rely on God for healing. One that was especially helpful is "Rise in the conscious strength of the spirit of Truth to overthrow the plea of mortal mind, alias matter, arrayed against the supremacy of Spirit. Blot out the images of mortal thought and its beliefs in sickness and sin. Then, when thou art delivered to the judgment of Truth, Christ, the judge will say, 'Thou art whole!'"
