CHURCH NEWS

From the May 1995 issue of The Christian Science Journal

The woman who handles the advertising for our Christian Science radio programs in the local newspaper invited me to a prayer luncheon. I was told that those attending would probably ask me some questions about Christian Science, so I promptly accepted.

We had a nice lunch and general conversation, plus their usual prayer circle—but no one asked me a single question about Christian Science. I felt really disappointed! But after several hours of feeling sorry for myself, I saw that this was not the way of Truth, and I started to thank God that there were people in this world who took the time to meet together once a week to talk about God and to pray for others. I appreciated their kindness and effort. I really did want to give talks on Christian Science (I am an Assistant Committee on Publication) and told God I would be ready when He felt He wanted me to.

Over a week went by, and one morning I was sitting on my porch, reading and praying to overcome a problem I had been having with one of my eyes. The words came to me "The wide horizon's grander view." I know the words of this hymn (Christian Science Hymnal, No. 218) like the back of my hand. As I reviewed these words, they confirmed the rightness of my desire to share Christian Science with others. I became so inspired praying along the lines of this hymn that I completely forgot about my eye. After a while I realized it was healed!
