It was June, and the weather had already warmed the city. A number of people crowded into the assembly hall to hear the sole speaker of the morning—a woman who spoke of a return to primitive Christianity, to the spiritual healing of sin and disease. In a stirring call to arms, she invited her listeners to become involved in a spiritual revolution. The challenge ahead and its irresistible outcome elicited from Mary Baker Eddy another comment:
"Christian Science and Christian Scientists will, must, have a history . .(Miscellaneous Writings, p. 106).
Church History, a part of the Office of the Clerk, is alive with purpose and outreach. It is a modern information resource center reflecting the vigor and sparkle expended in the actual making of history. It preserves and really puts to use the historical collections of The Mother Church. These collections are varied, substantial, and range from the early years of the movement to the present time. Visitors are treated to: displays featuring the Church's pastor—the Bible and Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mrs. Eddy; Bibles from The Mother Church's Historical Bible Collection, including rare editions; a wall display on the one-hundredth anniversary of the building of the Original Edifice of The Mother Church; an exhibit on early revisions of Science and Health. And on display for reading are seven unpublished reminiscences of Mrs. Eddy, as well as several historical documents on the beginnings and growth of Christian Science around the world.
