Welcome

From the March 1999 issue of The Christian Science Journal

In A Sermon On Christian Healing given in Boston in 1880, Journal founder Mary Baker Eddy declared, "We are in the midst of a revolution; physics are yielding slowly to metaphysics; mortal mind rebels at its own boundaries; weary of matter, it would catch the meaning of Spirit"

We see one significant sign of this in the continued interest in spiritual healing—a term that admittedly has widely different meanings to people. A related issue of growing interest and ethical concern today is death and dying. National Public Radio is running a series of programs on the subject. Last December the Harvard Medical School's course on "Spirituality & Healing in Medicine" also had this topic as its focus. Several articles in this issue offer perspective from the standpoint of Christian Science.

March is also Womens's History Month in the United States, highlighting the growing recognition of women as equal contributors and leaders in humanity's progress. Marceil DeLacy addresses Mary Baker Eddy's role in the reform of religion, science, and medicine, all part of that spiritual revolution still very much in progress.
