About eight years ago, during a tennis coaching session, a ball hit the end of the ring finger of my left hand, injuring it so that the end joint hung loosely in a bent position.
As soon as this happened, I didn’t look at the finger and aligned my thought as well as I could with the spiritual fact of God’s ever presence and the impossibility of an accident occurring where everything is governed by divine Principle. I was able to stay calm, and I didn’t need to tell anyone except my husband about the incident, because this
happened right at the end of our lesson. We just drove home, and I phoned a Christian Science practitioner straight away to pray with me. I then spent the rest of the evening reading Christian Science literature and praying with the ideas I read. This helped to calm my fear.
In the morning, because I thought my finger was broken, I went to the accident and emergency department of the local hospital, where I was told that the tendon, which controls the end joint of the finger, was snapped. I was given a plastic tube splint to wear on the finger for six weeks to hold it straight so that the ends of the tendon could meet and join together.
