Q: When I began to study Christian Science, the healings came so quickly and naturally. Now it seems as if I can’t even heal a simple cold. I read testimonies in the periodicals of people having quick, clear-cut healings all the time. What am I not seeing?
A: The pure joy of finding the Science of the Christ and experiencing its healing power for the first time is such a life-changing experience that our thought is lifted spiritually to heights we could never have imagined. All sorts of problems, from simple colds to those deemed serious or even deadly, are healed quickly—and apparently effortlessly. This is largely due to our unconditional acceptance of the spiritual facts Christian Science presents: that God, Spirit, really is All. God fills all space, constitutes the only Mind or intelligence, and man is His perfect image and likeness.
Over time though, that initial freshness, joy, and inspiration might get lost, if we let ourselves be put to sleep by the persistent presentation of false evidence by the material senses—arguing incessantly that no matter how much we study and pray, mortality’s cycle of birth, growth, maturity, and decay will always win in the end. This belief results in feelings of inadequacy to demonstrate the truth the way we once did, which in turn leads to discouragement and the suggestion of failure.
