Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer of Christian Science, who also established the Board of Trustees to manage the business of The Christian Science Publishing Society, saw all the periodic publications produced by this Society as serving a movement of thought, a community of spiritually minded thinkers. She stipulated that they be “ably edited and kept abreast of the times” (Church Manual, p. 44).
