An interview with the Christian Science Board of Education

From the March 2025 issue of The Christian Science Journal

As stated in the Manual of The Mother Church, Article XXVIII, Section 1, “There shall be a Board of Education, under the auspices of Mary Baker Eddy, President of the Massachusetts Metaphysical College, consisting of three members, a president, vice-president, and teacher of Christian Science.”

Mrs. Eddy described the origination of the Board of Education in the book The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany on page 246: “While revising ‘Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures,’ the light and might of the divine concurrence of the spirit and the Word appeared, and the result is an auxiliary to the College called the Board of Education of The Mother Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston, Mass.”

The primary responsibility of the Board of Education is to conduct its triennial Normal class for the purpose of preparing and authorizing new teachers of Christian Science and to provide support to the Christian Science Board of Directors in forming this class.
