A deeply thoughtful and caring friend recently articulated how many may be feeling now—utterly perplexed and helpless at the state of things in the world. Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer of Christian Science, writes, “Science only can explain the incredible good and evil elements now coming to the surface” (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 83). Centuries earlier, Christ Jesus spoke of the upheaval we would see as divine Truth acted on human consciousness to cleanse it and ultimately destroy all that is unlike God, good. Jesus prophesied “wars and rumours of wars,” earthquakes, famines, pestilences—but encouraged us not to let our hearts be troubled. He promised us a peace above what the world can give—a peace grounded in God, Spirit.
How can we feel this peace no matter what?
