LIBERTY! Freedom! In the annals of the nations few words have stirred the hearts of liberty-loving men and women more than these. Democratic nations are generally considered to be great proponents of liberty.

INDIVIDUALS have in the war period been seeking safety underground and in the country far away from bombs and bullets. They have sought to preserve in a material way that which they believe is a material, vulnerable life and body.

TO get along well with other people is largely a matter of understanding them. If preoccupied with our own thoughts or engrossed in our own feelings, we do not see beyond this limited horizon; but a wise and loving heart has the ability to discern, and the charity to understand, what is going on in the thoughts of others.

THE farther back we look into the history of mankind, the more plainly we see how the idolatrous tendencies of primitive man have multiplied; indeed, the record shows the human mind to have been immersed in idolatry from its very beginning. Lord Bacon in his "Novum Organum" classified the idols of the human race by dividing them into four distinct groups thus: "Idols of the tribe, idols of the den [fallacies due to personal causes], idols of the market [those due to the influence of words or phrases], and idols of the theater [those due to misconceptions of philosophic system or demonstration].

ACTION stations! Whatever the device used to proclaim it, this command known to all men in the service is a peremptory, insistent call, demanding instant obedience. Today Christian Science sounds the bugle call of Truth, arousing human thought and summoning it to take the necessary action in proving the unreality of evil by understanding the allness of God, good.

MARY BAKER EDDY has revealed in Christian Science that God, good, is All-in-all. The Christian Scientist therefore knows that, even though desperate conditions confront him, the truth is always present to heal any situation.

To be proved: that God is infinite, perfect, and eternal, and that man is God's perfect image and likeness. This problem confronts all young people today.

Today , more than ever before, we must begin to think deeply in order to understand better Mary Baker Eddy's statement in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (pp. 29, 30) , "Jesus was the offspring of Mary's self-conscious communion with God.

In the fourth chapter of Genesis we read of two brothers who each brought an offering to the Lord, but whereas one gift was acceptable, the other was not. Why, we ask, was this? Let us examine the exact words of the story: "Abel was a keeper of sheep, but Cain was a tiller of the ground.

" For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds. " This verse from the second epistle to the Corinthians was chosen by Mary Baker Eddy as the motto for The Christian Science Journal , and should serve as a constant reminder of the means by which we can counteract error of every sort.
