SALVATION

IF one's conclusions are drawn from the testimony of the five physical senses, how precarious and unstable existence seems to be! Sin, disease, poverty, and calamity of all sorts appear to surround one. On all sides strife and woe seem to abound.

SELF-IMMOLATION

SELF-IMMOLATION is necessary to the process of salvation. Originally the word "immolation" stood for the sacrificial rite of sprinkling meal upon an animal which was to be placed upon the altar for sacrifice.

"WHY STAND YE HERE . . . IDLE?"

THROUGHOUT the centuries, the loving invitation and practical adaptability of the parable of the householder, recorded in the twentieth chapter of Matthew's Gospel, have guided honest seekers for the truth into a wider usefulness and more abundant life. According to the story, the householder went into the market place in the morning to engage laborers to work in his vineyard.

OVERCOMING HUMAN DELUSIONS

MANY of us are inclined to pride ourselves upon our sanity in all matters pertaining to human experience; and it may be that this state of thought prevents spiritual progress, for one who is in a self-satisfied state is not progressive. He ceases to look beyond himself, and therefore stagnates.

FINDING HEAVEN

An old-time religious song reads: "I have heard of a place called heaven; I am trying to make it my home. " Particularly does this simple couplet describe the mental attitude in which the follower of Christian Science finds himself.

IMMORTALITY OF TRUTH

ALL that pertains to and characterizes Life likewise pertains to and characterizes Truth. Truth and Life are synonymous.

Haggai breathes a religious...

HAGGAI breathes a religious atmosphere entirely different from that of the pre-exilic prophets. Idolatry and heathenish practices are no longer the chief sins, but rather a tendency to secularism.

WHILE Haggai touches upon many topics, he has been rightly described as "a man of one idea"— namely, the speedy restoration of the Temple of Jehovah. A word should be added in explanation of this emphasis.

THE FOCUS OF THOUGHT

UNDER the marginal heading "Mind's true camera," on page 264 of Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," Mary Baker Eddy makes the following illuminating statement: "Mortals must look beyond fading, finite forms, if they would gain the true sense of things. " Then she puts the pertinent question, "Where shall the gaze rest but in the unsearchable realm of Mind?" There is no place where one's gaze can permanently rest except in the realm of infinite Mind, for all else is finite and transitory.
